Jamaica vehicle import cost estimator

Screen the current model-year cutoff and estimate landed cost for a standard individual passenger-vehicle import using Jamaica's published component rates.

How this estimate works

The planning Customs value adds purchase price, freight, shipping insurance, and any other broker-confirmed valuation adjustments, then converts the total with the dated rate entered. Import duty applies to that value. SCT applies to that value plus import duty. The environmental levy is 0.5 percent of that value.

GCT then applies to CIF plus import duty, SCT, environmental levy, and the Customs administrative fee base. The ledger mirrors that component order so the GCT base remains visible.

The tool uses exact component rates from the tariff effective 1 May 2026. It does not multiply CIF by the rounded aggregate percentages on the readable rate sheet, add a blanket compliance fee, or silently invent broker and port charges.

Questions people ask

Which vehicles can this estimator calculate?

It supports a standard ordinary individual passenger sedan with no more than five seats, or a station wagon or SUV with no more than eight seats, in one of the listed gasoline, diesel, or hybrid engine bands. Other classifications require the Trade Board and a licensed Customs Broker.

Why is there no electric-vehicle result?

The current tariff, Customs Procedure Code relief, and bare public duty estimator do not produce one safely interchangeable answer without the correct relief code and manufacture-date test. JaRanks sends that case for official confirmation instead of presenting a misleading settled total.

Does Returning Resident status remove the duties?

No. It can extend the vehicle age screen to ten years when the status and ownership conditions are met, but Jamaica Customs says the normal duties and taxes still apply.

Are broker and port charges included?

Only if you enter written quotes. They vary by shipment and provider, so the estimator keeps them separate from published government charges.

Why must I enter an exchange-rate date?

The Customs conversion rate is time-dependent. A dated user-entered rate makes the assumption visible and avoids a silent live-rate mismatch with the eventual assessment.
