How this estimate works
For a private car with an internal-combustion engine, annual licence duty is J$9,240 up to 1,199cc, J$12,600 from 1,200cc to 2,999cc, J$28,800 from 3,000cc to 3,999cc, and J$43,650 from 4,000cc upward.
The Act lists J$9,240 for a car not powered by an internal-combustion engine. JIS describes the time-limited waiver as applying to electric vehicles “three years old or less at the time of importation.” Because public material does not safely resolve the end-date mechanics for every vehicle, the planner requires the actual TAJ-confirmed EV amount instead of deciding exemption from dates.
The J$4,500 private fitness fee is spread across the one-, three-, or five-year validity printed on the certificate. The separate statutory inspection line is not added to this ownership planner.
Cash flow includes an entered loan payment but excludes depreciation. Economic cost includes depreciation but excludes loan payments, preventing principal and value loss from being counted twice.
Questions people ask
What costs are included in the monthly running total?
Fuel or charging, annual licence duty spread monthly, the fitness fee spread over its actual validity, and any insurance, maintenance, parking, and toll amounts entered.
Why are loan payment and depreciation shown separately?
A loan payment is cash flow and includes principal. Depreciation is value loss. Adding both to one headline can double-count part of the vehicle's cost.
Does every electric car pay J$9,240 a year?
Not necessarily. The Act's schedule shows J$9,240 before any exemption, while a time-limited waiver can affect qualifying battery EVs. Enter the actual amount TAJ confirms for the vehicle.
Which fuel price should I enter?
Use the pump price on a current station receipt. Petrojam's published billing price excludes retailer markups and should not be treated as the price every driver pays.
